Anodic etching non-destructive testing method
Anodic etching is both a chemical process and a non-destructive testing (NDT) method that is deployed for inspection to detect grain structure, grain size, inclusions, surface breaking defects, and segregation problems such as white spots. It also serves the purpose of removing interfering material as a preparation for subsequent Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) for stainless steels and nickel based materials.
MTC anodic etching laboratory inspection services
Element has a complete in-house capability that offers high quality anodic etching processing facilities and the expertise for designing associated fixtures, which is a critical element in the proper application of anodic etch processing.
Element provides anodic etching related services for the following specifications:
- MTV 224
- CEIM-1
- EIM Code 1
- RPS 674
Anodic etching processes can be applied to a variety of mechanical and industrial standard equipment parts, including spacers, seals, shafts, hubs, rings, plates, blades, vanes, discs, knife edge seals, seal fins, nozzle guide vanes, compressor discs, compressor blades, turbine discs, turbine blades, and other nickel alloy parts within the hot sections of gas turbine aircraft engines, critical rotating parts, and similar applications.

Aluminium Etching and Cleaning
Aluminum etching is a nondestructive technique used to clean or inspect the material for grain size or surface defects. It is also considered a preparation method for pre-penetrant etch.
Blue Etch Anodize (BEA) Inspection
Blue Etch Anodize is a nondestructive test that can reveal minimal surface defects in titanium materials. Titanium is commonly used in critical rotating components for both aerospace and power generation industries.
